2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
One more muscle car coming, this time here’s the new 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The 2018 Chevy Camaro will be a new, lighter platform that is both instantly recognizable and refreshingly new, and the ZL1 version should be even better. Since the whole thing is still a concept, we’ll try not to give in to temptation and spoil the fun, but given how Camaros keep getting better and better at an alarming rate, it is not easy to imagine what it will look like in three years or so.
The ZL1 is typically the supercharged version that is on the frontline against the competition, along with its Z/28 brother. The Camaro that is to be supercharged into the ZL1 version of 2018 is still at the development stage, so most of the information are actually conjectures and educated guesses, but we’ll make sure to update as new and reliable stuff comes along.
Redesign – Exterior & Interior
Since not even the prototype has been built yet, it is hard to speculate on the external appearance of the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. However, if the current trends continue, the 2018 version should feature an aggressive front fascia with a distinctive ZL1 badge. The larger splitter should accommodate for better aerodynamics, while the standard bowtie grille with horizontal slats and the distinctive headlights should complete the overall impression. The lid above the engine should feature a pair of ZL1 badges as well.
The black side skirts between the five-spoke black wheels should be intimidating and awesome at the same time. In the back, the 2018 ZL1 should feature a new diffuser and a new spoiler for maximum downforce, with the quad-exhaust should feature larger outlets, but otherwise remain the same as on the previous versions. The choice of colors is also impressive.
Interior
While there is no solid intel on the inside of the new 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, is will most certainly benefit from all the gadgets and improvements that Chevrolet experts can think of – this car is not for the skimpy. We can expect a new and/or improved seats, redesigned dashboard and a new HUD. The steering wheel and the shifter should be covered in suede or leather, with a power sunroof and a choice of several packages that should complete the overall experience.
The Engine range
As with the previous versions, the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will house a supercharged beast chained beneath its hood. The exact engine and specs are a mystery, but at this point our best guess is something along the lines of a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine with a 1.7-liter supercharger and the 20,000-rpm redline. We are talking about a huge amount of power in excess of 670 horsepower and at least as many pound-feet of torque, although the actual specs may vary. As for transmission, there should be an 8-speed automatic.
2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Release Date
It’s definitely way too early to talk about release dates, as both the base Camaro and its ZL1 version are not even in the ballpark. The best guess is late 2017 or early 2018.
Price
The ZL1 is not a cheap car, and the 2018 version probably won’t be, either. We are looking at a $60,000 minimum, plus any of the additional equipment.
