2018 Ford Mustang – rumors & news

The current version of the Mustang has only been released for a couple of years but Ford is already planning a massive facelift to give the car in order to keep it competitive until the all new model will be released some time in the late 2020. Instead of releasing an all new model, the 2018 Ford Mustang will include slight changes on the exterior, new engines as well as changes inside the cabin.

These are not necessarily meant to make it better to drive or more comfortable but more to make it a more complete package.

Under the Hood

Engine wise, the base models of the 2018 Ford Mustang will continue to use Ford’s 3.7 liter V6 and 2.3 liter EcoBoost. However, the 5 liter V8 is actually expected to be discontinued because it is not as powerful as it should or even as efficient. In its place, they will likely offer the 3.5 liter twin-turbocharged V6 which is a very capable engine. This could easily make more than 500 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque while using less fuel than the V8 which would be a real win for Ford.

The GT350 and 350R versions will continue to be offered with the same 5.2 liter flat-plane crank V8 which not only revs as high as 8,000 rpm but it also makes over 520 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. So far it still is unknown what engine the Mach 1 will receive but our best guess would be that it will receive a newly developed 5.2 liter twin-turbocharged V8 derived from the flat-plane crank V8 of the GT350.

This new powertrain will be able to rev very high thanks to its base engine and the two turbochargers should easily allow the Mach 1 to offer well over 700 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque, more than enough to become the most powerful and likely the fastest muscle car on the US market. All these cars, the only exception being the Mach 1, will get a 6 speed manual as standard while a 10 speed automatic will now be available as an option.

Design – Inside view & Outside look

The design of the upcoming 2018 Ford Mustang is also going to change slightly in order to look a bit more fresh. In order to do so, the front end will likely receive new headlights while at the back it will likely get all new tail lights as well. The Mach 1 will add a sportier body-kit, side intakes, larger wheels and brakes and a lower stance as well.

Interior

Inside the cabin on the other hand things are going to be pretty similar to the ongoing version. Here the car will get Ford’s latest infotainment system, most likely a derivative of the Sync 3 unit, and on top of that it will also receive slightly better materials as well as more attention when it comes to the assembly process, especially after some models of the Mustang were a bit lacking in this department.

2018 Ford Mustang Price & Release date

This all new model should be released some time in the late 2017 which means it still is a couple of years away, meaning that when it will launch, the car would have been on the market for more than three and a half years.

The price for the base models of the car should be nearly identical to what the current models cost. However, the top end version will easily get past $100,000 and this is because the GT350 and 350R are going to receive a more expensive sibling with the Mach 1. This will act as the top of the range model and it is expected to be the fastest muscle car in the World by a rather large lead over the second one.
