2016 Chevy Silverado Special Ops

2016 Chevy Silverado Special Ops is the latest truck by Chevrolet company and it confirmed for production. The current model of the Silverado has been launched back in 2012 and even though it is not the most powerful and the most fuel efficient, it managed to make a lot of people liking it because it is reliable and quite nice to drive for a truck. The new Silverado Ops brings a lot of changes, for example, front end, LED light and new engine options. This model is unique.

However, considering that there are two all new trucks in its class, people started to lose interest in it so GM has to do something about it in order to keep the current model viable until the all new generation of the truck is going to be released ahead of schedule some time at the end of 2016.

Design – Interior and Exterior

The exterior design of the 2016 Chevy Silverado Special Ops is the most interesting aspect about this truck. It comes with a unique color scheme which is similar to the “Razzle Dazzle” camouflage which has been used by the navy for the past 100 years. On top of that, it also comes equipped with quite a few upgrades over the base model. The underside has been beefed up with skid-plates which protect the engine and the transmission, the front bumper has been revised with larger tow-hooks and LED fog-lamps while the back received a larger exhaust tip. The headlights use LED as standard now and both the front and rear badges have been blacked out.

The bed has been upgraded so it comes with the new GearOn solution which gives its customer a modular anchor system. On top of that, there is a roll-bar mounted in the bed as well as a pair of LED spotlights which will prove very handy during fishing or hunting trips.

Inside view

The interior has not been left unchanged either, so besides the usual equipment level of a fully equipped Silverado, this model will add orange trimmings which are meant to contrast with the blue camouflage on the exterior. Another upgrade is the new waterproof carpet which will not need additional rubber mats to become all-weather ready.

Under the Hood

Engine wise, the 2016 Chevy Silverado Special Ops comes with the top of the range 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 which offers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. This is then mated to an 8 speed automatic which sends the power to a four wheel drive system via lockable differentials. However, it seems that if it will hit the market, the model will also be available with the lesser 5.3 liter V8 as well as with the 4.3 liter V6.

This will be possible thanks to the fact that the Special Ops will most likely be offered as a dealer installed package over the base truck which would not only save quite a bit of money but it would allow previous customers to get it which is a great piece of news for them. There are rumors that a higher performance version could also be offered with beefier differentials as well as even a supercharger add-on for the V8 engines which would allow people to fully enjoy their truck without having to think that Ford has more powerful engines that can tow more while using less fuel.

2016 Chevy Silverado Special Ops Release date

Alongside all of the other new trim levels GM introduced for the Silverado in the last two years, the most interesting has to be the 2016 Chevy Silverado Special Ops concept truck which has been first showcased this year at SEMA.

While it is not available on the market for now, the truck has a real chance of going on sale soon considering that most of the parts used on it are already available through GM dealers. If it will hit the market, we expect it some time at the end of this year and it should be priced similarly to the Z71 off-road package.

The biggest rivals are 2017 Chevy Colorado Z71 and 2016 Chevy Colorado ZR2.
