2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 – Duramax
2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 – the biggest changes are new look and diesel engine. The new Colorado has been launched on the US market not even a year ago but GM is already preparing a new model to be released here. This will not only add a few updated engines and a slightly better design but it will also add a couple of new trim levels. One of these is going to be the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 which is going to be the high performance version of the truck aimed at people looking for maximum off-road performance and great looks as well.
Its only real competitor is going to be the Tacoma TRD Pro model but this will not be as good in terms of features and it may also cost more than it.
2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Design
Just as we mentioned, the design of the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 will be nearly identical to the 2014 concept. However, we may see some changes to the front end and this is mostly because the truck will receive a facelift that year as well. The off-road inspired bumpers of the concept truck as well as the massive 17 inch wheels and 33 inch off-road tires will likely be carried over to the production model.
The truck will likely only be offered in an extended cab configuration with a short bed which will also house the spare tire. This will also include a couple of storage compartments on the sides with lockable covers.
Interior
Inside the cabin, the ZR2 version of the Colorado is going to offer enough space for only two people, despite the extra space offered by its cab. This is because the seats will likely be provided by Recaro so the truck will be sportier than its competitors and instead of having rear seats, it will offer extra storage space needed for those long off-road trips.
The dashboard will be identical to the usual version though and standard equipment is going to include Chevrolet’s best infotainment system, a rather high end audio system, satellite navigation and even a head-up display and a steering wheel borrowed from the Camaro.
The Engine Range & Specs
Under the hood of the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 we are going to find two different engines. The base model will not get the inline 4 petrol engine but it will rather get the larger 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6. This will be the upgraded version also found on the new Camaro which may be able to provide as much as 320 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque which is actually better than some bigger trucks. The option will be the 2.8 liter Duramax inline 4 diesel which will offer 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, more than enough to allow it to tow more than 7,000 pounds.
The only transmission of choice for the two is going to be an 8 speed automatic which will power all four wheels even on the base ZR2. Also, the truck will receive a limited slip differential in the back as standard and it will also get upgraded brakes as well as Fox shocks with externally-mounted reservoirs.
2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Price
Being based on the upcoming Colorado, the ZR2 version will definitely make use of the updated engines. Also, it could also borrow heavily from the concept truck which has been released in the late 2014, so it may get the same design notes as that truck.
It will likely be released at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show and it will be available on the market for a limited amount of time. The price is still unknown but it is expected to carry a premium of at least $5,000 over the top end version of the Colorado. This means that it may easily get to $50,000 for its diesel version.
