The US version of the Colorado has been released quite recently but despite that it managed to quickly become the best selling compact truck on the market. On top of that, it currently is on an upward trend and it is expected to sell better than its larger brother quite soon. In order to keep this trend, the truck will receive a large update with the 2017 Chevy Colorado which is going to include a couple of new trim levels, quite a few changes under the hood as well as a lot of changes to its running gear.

The chassis on the other hand is expected to remain the same which is to be expected for a truck that has been on the market a couple of years. However, the International model of the Colorado will receive a lot more changes quite soon and this is mostly because it started to fall behind some of its competitors such as the Hilux or the Navara.

Redesign – Changes and Updates

Exterior

This new trim level will be the 2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2 which has first been shown as a concept in the early 2015. This new model will not only include changes on the exterior, but it will also be offered with an all new interior. The front end of the ZR2 will boast a new off-road bumper to allow it a better approach angle. This will also include a high-power winch as well as LED flood-lights. The back will feature a large sport-bar with LED lamps as well as a more durable bumper. Also in order to withstand off-road use, the truck will be equipped with Fox-shocks with externally-mounted reservoirs, bigger brakes and 17 inch wheels with 33 inch high performance off-road tires.

The other trim level that will be introduced with this new model will be aimed at the more premium market so it will feature a better interior than most as well as chrome accents on the exterior. The ZR2 on the other hand will receive sport seats, a new steering wheel that will likely come from the Camaro as well as a different instrument cluster.

The usual model of the 2017 Chevy Colorado on the other hand will only go through a few changes that will make it slightly more appealing and more up-to-date. This will include new headlights and tail lights and likely a couple of new exterior colors and wheels.

Under the Hood

Engine wise, the truck will get the same three engines as the 2016 model. This means that the base trucks will get the 2.5 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 which is quite capable at 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. Further up the range, a 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 with more than 310 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque is also going to be available. This will boast a small bump in power and fuel efficiency thanks to the improvements made to the intake system.

The range-topping model will be the 2.8 liter Duramax inline 4 turbo-diesel which will offer 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, more than enough for a compact truck. The biggest change over the 2016 model will be the transmission which will change from the current 6 speed unit to GM’s silky smooth 8 speed automatic which is also offered on its larger siblings.
