2017 Chevy Silverado – spy photos
The Silverado has been updated quite recently and while it may not be the most advanced truck out there, it certainly is one of the better ones because it manages to offer a good compromise between utility, comfort and true off-road ability. In order to become even better, an update is expected to be released with the 2017 Chevy Silverado which should allow the truck to compete with the all new Ford F-150 as well as with the upcoming Ram-1500 until the all new Silverado will be released some time in the late 2018.
The 2017 update will run on the same chassis as the current model and it should provide roughly the same experience.
Design – Spy photos & Rendering
Just as we said, the running gear as well as the chassis will remain mostly the same but the actual design of it should change a bit. The current model offers a very nice looking front end which manages to combine GM’s current design scheme in a very appealing package. However, the truck is still missing its identity which could mean that the new model will finally get a design of its own with a new grille and headlights as well as a more muscular-looking hood and fenders. The cabin will remain the same as before but at the back, the tailgate will likely receive a large update in order to become a bit more appealing to its customers.
Modern Interior
Inside the cabin, the 2017 Chevy Silverado will likely stay pretty much identical to the ongoing model, especially after the updates GM did to the truck. However, we do expect a few upgrades such as their newest navigation and infotainment system, slightly more supportive seats which are lacking in the current model as well as slightly better materials and fittings throughout the cabin.
The Engine range & Specs
Under its hood, the base model of the truck will likely be quite a bit more different than the ongoing model. Instead of the current 4.3 liter V6, many people expect to see GM’s newest 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 which has been updated tremendously since it was launched. This could now make with ease more than 330 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque which would be more than enough for a base Silverado.
Also, the mid-range 5.3 liter naturally aspirated V8 is expected to be discontinued altogether and replaced with a smaller turbocharged V6 of an unknown capacity while the top of the range 6.2 liter V8 will be kept in place. Also, a fourth option could also be added with GM’s new 3.6 liter twin-turbocharged V6 which first debuted on the ATS-V. Sure, this would be tweaked in order to make around 400 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque which would actually be more than Ford’s 3.5 liter Ecoboost.
This coupled with the fact that the Silverado has the better running gear of the two would likely allow GM to become the leader in this very competitive class. In terms of transmission, rear wheel drive will be standard on the 2017 Chevy Silverado while a four wheel drive system will be available as an option and the only transmission offered on the truck will be the 8 speed automatic which has been used on the large 6.2 liter V8.
2017 Chevy Silverado Price
However, the new model is expected to receive at least a new engine as well as a couple of upgrades inside and out which should make it a more desirable choice. The price of the truck will likely stay unchanged, so expect it to start just under $30,000 and go up to more than $60,000 for a fully equipped top of the range model.
Also, while the truck will definitely be revealed at the next Detroit Auto Show, it will likely not be available for sale for at least a couple more months after that.
