2017 McLaren 675 LT Spider

Long Tail is a very well known trim level for any McLaren fan because it designated the Le Mans winning F1. Not too long ago, this trim level was also introduced for their road-going versions with the introduction of the 675 LT. Unfortunately though, McLaren only sold 500 of these cars but they are luckily also going to sell 500 of the upcoming 2017 McLaren 675 LT Spider which is the open top version of the car.

Unlike most other manufacturers though, thanks to the carbon fiber mono-cell of the original, the car will only be around 80 pounds heavier than the coupe and this is mostly because it will sport a retractable hardtop which is quite heavy all by itself.

Modern and Advanced Design

The exterior of the 2017 McLaren 675 LT Spider is mostly based on that of the 650S Spider and this is to be expected considering the LT is the high performance version of the S model. While the LT stands for Long Tail, the car is only a couple of inches longer than the 650S and this is mostly because it now has a new front bumper with a much larger splitter than before as well as a new rear bumper with a larger diffuser.

There is also a new active wing in the back which can offer up to 50% more downforce than the one found in its close sibling. The biggest change from the coupe is that the roof can now be taken down in a matter of seconds and the best part about that is that the car can run at top speed with or without its roof on.

Inspired & Improved Interior

Inside the cabin, the 675 LT is the more hardcore version of the 650S so while it is similarly equipped with the great McLaren interface and a great climate control system, it is a bit more minimalistic so it offers no carpeting and the audio system is basic at best. On top of that, the car offers more carbon fiber accents throughout the cabin and the seats are lighter and more supportive than those on the more basic models.

Refined and Spirited Performance

Under the rear lid the 2017 McLaren 675 LT Spider sports the same 3.8 liter twin-turbocharged V8 found in all of their other models. This makes the exact same amount of power as before at 666 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque which are all routed to the rear wheels via a 7 speed dual-clutch automatic. While it seems identical to the one before it, McLaren says that this engine has a lot of parts revised such as new heads, a different intake and exhaust system and a new management system.

These should make the car a bit more drivable and better to live with on a daily basis. Thanks to its lower than 2,800 pounds weight, the car is able to get to 60 MPH in less than 3 seconds and up to a maximum top speed of well over 200 MPH which makes it one of the faster offerings currently on the market.

New features

The best part about this level of performance is that it can offer it even on a circuit because it has a revised suspension system, larger brakes and even semi-slick tires which make the LT faster than pretty much any other car that costs less than one million dollars.

2017 McLaren 675 LT Spider Price

The car has been priced at little over $380,000 and it is more than $30,000 more expensive than the coupe. The drawback here is that it is a limited run so the price is bound to increase as soon as the official cars will be sold. McLaren already released the pre-orders for the car and they are going to start deliveries some time in the summer of 2016.

The biggest competitors are Ferrari 488 Spider and Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 Spyder.
