2017 Honda CRV
2017 Honda CRV – first details and rumors are revealed, after a premiere of the 2016 model year. As you can to imagine, new model will bring a lot of changes. The current model of the CRV has been released back at the end of 2011 and it managed to become one of the more appreciated crossovers due to its low price and great fuel consumption. However, because there are now a lot better cars in its price range Honda has to do something about their aging crossover in order to make it better.
Rumors about an all new model have first started to appear last year and it seems that the new model is closer than we first thought. The upcoming 2017 Honda CRV should be released in the early to mid of 2016 while the production model will follow shortly after.
Under the Hood
In terms of engines, the current 2.4 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 will most likely be removed from the car. Instead, we should now get at least two all new engines which will be aimed at those looking for fuel consumption and to those looking for higher performance. The base model has been rumored to get a naturally aspirated 1.8 liter inline 4 which would be taken from the smaller HRV. This time though the engine could make up to 160 horsepower which is more than enough for a five seats crossover aimed at those looking to get as many miles per gallon as possible. This will likely be mated to a CVT and front or all wheel drive.
The premium model will likely be getting the same powertrain as the Pilot which means it will get a naturally aspirated 3.5 liter V6 which could offer up to 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. This would make the 2017 Honda CRV the most powerful CRV yet, all without having to compromise on fuel consumption. This engine will likely be offered with a slightly different transmission that will be able to take advantage of that power a bit better.
2017 CRV Redesign
The design of the new CRV will not remain the same and even the platform will change. The new CRV has been confirmed to be larger in every way and thanks to this it will now be offered in two different versions, a 5 seats model and even a 7 seats one. Besides that, the car will feature more equipment in the base trim level and the materials will be a lot more premium than before.
There have even been rumors about it getting the same dashboard, infotainment unit and even most of the equipment from the Pilot which would make the 2017 Honda CRV the best equipped car in its class by quite a big margin.
Outside look
The exterior will also change and it will likely be brought closer to all the other Honda models released recently. The front end will likely get a new grille with a pair of more aggressive headlights while the back could get some design cues from the new HRV. Due to the larger size of the car, this model could also get new larger wheels and tires to complete the new look as well as even a sporty body kit for the five seats version of the car to show off its performance.
2017 Honda CRV Release date & Price
Thanks to the release of the HRV, Honda now has a small and cheap crossover so they don’t have to make a CRV which fills to roles. This is also the main reason why the upcoming CRV will be bigger, better, more comfortable and a lot more powerful and even though it will still be part of the same class, it will now be able to compete with the upcoming Tiguan and all the other new premium crossovers in its class.
The price will also be adjusted accordingly which means that the base model will likely get a small bump to around $26,000 or even a bit more than that.
Traditionally, the key rivals will be Ford Escape and Mazda CX-5.
