2016 Ford Edge – more aggressive, and new technology. The current Edge has only been released back in 2014 so it is quite a new car. However, despite that Ford wants to update it because they feel like the current model is not as good as it could and they are right in a few regards. The current model is quite slow when it comes to direction changes and it does not drives nearly as good as its competitors.

In order to solve some of these issues, a new model is going to be released with the 2016 Ford Edge which will get a few upgrades under the hood, slight changes to its running gear as well as it will get upgrades to its interior.

The Engine & performance

Under the hood, the engines of the 2016 Ford Edge will remain pretty much the same as those on the current model. However, we do expect a small change for this update and that’s the 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6 which is not that efficient and it does not make much sense, especially when compared with the smaller 2 liter EcoBoost inline 4 which provides a respectable output at 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. The V6 on the other hand is likely going to be replaced by a slightly bigger 3.7 liter unit which could provide around 300 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. While its power will increase, the fuel consumption will remain the same which is the perfect tradeoff.

The 2.7 liter EcoBoost V6 will also get a small boost to around 320 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque in order to remain a good upgrade from the bigger V6. However, just like before, the 2.7 liter unit will only be available for the Sport which will get bigger brakes and uprated suspension that will be able to cope with the extra power. A transmission upgrade has also been rumored but this has not been confirmed by Ford just yet so the car might stick with the current 6 speed unit which is average at best.

Design – Interior & Exterior

On the inside, the 2016 Ford Edge will get a few more upgrades than under the hood. Here, the old Sync 2 infotainment system is going to be upgraded with the latest Sync 3 unit which is not only faster than before but it is also much easier to use thanks to a more intuitive interface and a lot more functions. On top of that, the car will get an adaptive steering rack that will not change its turning circle but it should make it a lot more stable and manageable at high speeds and more manageable during low-speed driving.

Exterior

The exterior of the new Edge will remain pretty much unchanged and this is to be expected with such a new model. The front end will remain pretty much the same with the exception of its headlights which may be upgraded on the top end models with fully LED lit units. The exhaust system for the V6 model could also be upgraded to the same one as one the EcoBoost model which is slightly larger and it provides a better sound during hard acceleration.

2016 Ford Edge Price & Release date

The price of the car should remain similar to that of the ongoing model meaning that the base version will not cost more than $29,000 while the top end versions of it should go for around $46,000 which is still a very respectable price considering the car comes with a really potent engine and a lot of interior equipment.

The only drawback is that the 2016 model is still nearly a full year away and when it will finally hit the market, the mid-life update is likely going to be around a year away as well so it might not be worth it for those looking to get one.
