2017 Lincoln Navigator

Just like the Expedition, the Navigator has been around for a long time and despite the fact it received numerous updates in its lifetime, it can no longer compete with all of its newer and more efficient competitors. In order to be able to do this once again, Lincoln will actually release an all new model of their full size crossover. This new 2017 Lincoln Navigator will share nothing with its predecessor which is to be expected considering it will share the same platform with the upcoming Expedition.

However, while it will retain the high strength steel chassis and the aluminum body of the Expedition, the Navigator will look nothing like its sibling. In fact, the design will not be the only change Lincoln will do to their crossover.

The suspension system which will be used on the car will be all new and unlike the basic one used on the Expedition, the 2017 Lincoln Navigator is going to receive as standard a self-leveling system while an option will give it an active suspension system which will not only keep the car leveled but it will also allow it to get past larger objects and it will even make it more comfortable, both on the road and off it.

In order to keep this price unchanged from the previous model, Lincoln will have to do some intelligent upgrades to the car in order to make it competitive. This means that this time around, the 2017 Lincoln Navigator will be available with two different engines which are actually going to be slightly different from those on the Expedition. The base model will make use of Lincoln’s own 3 liter twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine which is capable of producing up to 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.

Further up the range though, the car will receive the same engine that will power the top end version of the Expedition but it will likely be tuned differently in the Navigator.

This will make closer to 450 horsepower and over 500 lb-ft of torque. Both of these should be more than enough to allow the car to tow up to 9,000 pounds with ease and both of them will have greatly improved fuel efficiency mostly thanks to the over 700 pounds of lost weight and also thanks to the advancements in technology Ford and Lincoln made. As an upgrade over the ongoing model, the new Navigator will only come equipped with their latest 10 speed automatic gearbox.

New Design – rumors and predictions

On the outside Lincoln will have to work extensively in order to differentiate their luxury offering from the more mainstream Navigator. Here we expect the Lincoln model to feature a completely overhauled front end which will likely borrow some design cues from the Continental concept car. On top of that, the massive glasshouse of the Expedition is likely going to be styled a bit more differently in order to make it more appealing to its customers.

Interior

Inside the cabin, the 2017 Lincoln Navigator will offer all the latest technologies Ford has to offer. This will include their new Sync 3 infotainment system which is faster and easier to use than most on the market. On top of that, the base trim level will include leather upholstery, electrically adjustable and heated seats, a larger than 8 inch touch-screen on the dashboard as well as triple-zone automatic climate control and safety features such as blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and even a frontal collision warning system.
